Dannielle McGrath, Practice Nurse Manager, had two career dreams growing up: become an international first-class flight attendant or become a nurse. She achieved both. She started flying and then moved into nursing—working as a ward nurse, a scrub nurse, a boarding school nurse and across Defense contracts, clinical education, and general practice.
Both these careers involve sensitivity to human needs, managing unexpected demands, building rapport quickly, and being present for someone who needs you.
She joined the new Yeerongpilly practice because she saw it as a rare chance to be at the forefront of something fresh with solid foundations. Dannielle believes GP nursing will increasingly support patients at the primary care level, keeping people from becoming profoundly unwell and alleviating pressure on the hospital system.
Dannielle says: ‘I’m constantly adding to my academic learning and building on my clinical skills. That’s important to me. But good nursing is much more than that. As a practice nurse, I get to build lovely rapport through the generations. I get to help people age well and stay in their own homes. We build strong connections where people know they have been seen.’
