Karli Trinder started working in healthcare as a medical receptionist at just 15, when a school traineeship at her auntie’s practice opened the door. Seventeen years and several different healthcare settings later, she knows that creating a positive experience starts the moment a patient walks in the door. She says that people can feel nervous or a bit overwhelmed when they visit the doctor. This is when a warm, friendly face, a chat and help with the practical things like Medicare rebates and future appointments will always make for a better experience.
Karli sees her role is much more than admin. She is there to respond to patient need and advocate for them, especially when they are unwell.
Karli says: “I like working with people. Before starting at Yeerongpilly, I tried working remotely, from home. At first I liked the order and predictability…. but not for long. It was so different without that patient interaction. After three months I thought, “Come on, bring the people back now.” That’s when I knew I needed to get back into what I enjoy most.”
